TeacherDesk Data & Permissions

LAST UPDATED: AUGUST 24, 2026

Minimal hardware access by design.

TeacherDesk requests only essential device permissions required to scan student QR badges, import CSV rosters, and deliver class schedule notifications. No pictures, audio, or student records are ever collected or transmitted.

1. Privacy & Permission Philosophy

Educators manage sensitive student information every day. In adherence to both the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), TeacherDesk is architected to operate with minimal device authority. The app never queries device hardware unless strictly requested by an educator-triggered action.

2. Camera & Live QR Scanning

Strictly Used for Instant QR Roll Call

Camera access is invoked solely when you launch the Live QR Scanner tool. The camera feed processes the cryptographic 2D barcode of the Student ID badge entirely in-memory. No photo frames or video recordings are saved to storage or transmitted over the network.

3. Local Storage & File Access

CSV Roster Import & JSON Vault Backups

TeacherDesk utilizes the standard Android Storage Access Framework. When importing a class roster or exporting a backup vault, you explicitly select the individual file through the system file picker. TeacherDesk cannot scan or read unrelated documents or media stored on your device.

4. Schedule Notifications

Class Timetable & Duty Reminders

Notification permissions enable local device alerts for upcoming advisory periods, class subject switches, or grading submission deadlines. These alerts are scheduled locally using Android's AlarmManager without third-party push notification servers.

5. Biometrics & MPIN Security

Hardware Keystore Biometrics

Fingerprint unlock connects directly to Android's BiometricPrompt API. Biometric templates remain locked in your smartphone's hardware Trusted Execution Environment (TEE). The app receives only a cryptographic validation signal.

6. Permissions We Never Request

To ensure absolute peace of mind for educators and parents, TeacherDesk deliberately excludes:

No Microphone Access

TeacherDesk does not record classroom audio or ambient speech.

No Personal Photo Gallery Harvesting

TeacherDesk cannot view or scan your family photos or personal gallery media.

No Address Book / Contacts Harvesting

Guardian email addresses and phone numbers entered for broadcasts remain strictly within your local SQLite roster.

7. How to Manage or Revoke Permissions

You can toggle or revoke any device permission at any time through standard Android controls:

Open Settings Apps TeacherDesk Permissions.
